This mechanical corkscrew not only looks impressive but also amazes guests as it pulls a cork in just 3 seconds and then releases it even more quickly. This heavy piece of machinery is made of a durable zinc alloy and reinforced with nylon, making it sturdy as well as attractive. Although the Connoisseur looks complex, it is actually very easy to operate. You simply extend the ergonomically designed top lever down until the worm screw is lifted all the way up into the mechanism. Next you position the rubber-padded grip handles around the neck of your wine bottle and bring the top lever all the way back up again to puncture the cork with the worm screw. Lift the lever back down again and the cork is loosened; one additional tug on the grips is all it takes to completely remove the cork from the wine bottle. To release the cork from the screw, simply hold it between the grip handles and perform one last up-and-down motion with the lever. The hardened steel screw is coated with a nonstick surface for easier release of corks (although it does not work with synthetic corks) and an extra screw is included for backup. My daughter bought me the Connoisseur Corkscrew as a gift last year and it never worked properly. I didn't want to tell her because it would cause her trouble to return it, etc., but as it sits in my drawer and takes up space, and I don't use it, I decided maybe I should contact the manufacturer and get another one that works!

Ours finally broke after three years of daily use, and we feel we got our money's worth. It worked much better and much longer than the "Rabbit" brand we had previously. It doesn't work well with plastic corks, but otherwise it is excellent, and we are about to order another.


This opener works flawlessly. This item couldn't be easier just as long as you read the instructions once.

Remove the foil from the bottle with the provided foil cutter. Lift the large level upwards and simply set this on top the bottle. Squeeze the lower handle which controls the gears and also holds the bottle. Pull the arm down once and pull the arm back up. As long as you're holding the lower lever it will slide easily in, lock the screw, then pull the cork out. Release the lower lever and remove the opener from the bottle.

Afterwards you simply pull the lever back down without the bottle and back up again and the cork is removed from the opener. This is a fantastic gift to anyone who drinks wine with any frequency. The unit is very sturdy and looks great in bronze or chrome.


Got this as a gift from my brother. I love it because it has given me some independence - I don't have to wait for my husband to open a bottle of wine for me! We've had it for 3 years and have had no problems. I've recommended this item to party guests who noticed how easily I opened up bottles of wine.


Never mind the previous review, they couldn't put a round peg in a round hole if they had to and must not have read the instructions. Don't be fooled by cheap imitations. This is the real deal. More $ but worth it. We have had this style for over 3 years and it has worked flawlessly. Over the years we have purchased cheaper versions to give as gifts and been over to friends homes that have the cheezy ones and none of them work as good as this one. Our reason for buying this one is for a gift and a gift that will keep giving for years to come.

I purchased several of these cork screws thinking they would be great Christmas gifts. Everyone I purchased has broken. The screw head has pulled out of the unit. You can put it back in but it won't stay.


Plastic piece at the bottom broke off after ~1 month of use. Of course, this was 1 week after Amazon return policy expired. Would definitely not purchase this brand again.


This is a great corkscrew. I had a similar one before but it was not working properly anymore. It is now so easy to open any bottle with this new one.


This is hard to use and prone to breaking. The foil cutter breaks after 2 times.


I was given the "MIU Connoisseur Corkscrew" as a Christmas gift two years ago. Since then, we have used it several times a month (I drink a glass of red wine every day, medicinally of course :-) with the same great results every time.

The device is well made and easy to use, if/when it happens to break I will replace it with another.

I'm very disappointed in this purchase! My parents have a corkscrew that has the same design but obviously by a better manufacturer. Tonight I decided to try to open a bottle of wine with it for the first time and it was AWFUL!! I am going to go back to the old cheap corkscrew I use on camping trips. I had to seriously struggle to get the screw into AND out of the cork. I'm 27 and very active but it was a workout trying to use this thing. I shouldn't have had to struggle nearly as much as I did. I tried another cork right after, and it was just as hard. Granted it was used... however the seller said it was like new. From what I can tell it is just seriously cheap design.


I bought this item thinking that I would have a dependable corkscrew. But after relatively light use a bit of plastic broke and the corkscrew simply didn't work any longer. I noticed several other similar reviews. It was a waste of my money and I feel that my purchase price should be refunded.


Purchased 2 of these, one for me, one as a gift in Dec. 2007. Initially worked great, but both broke within 6 months after what I'd consider light to moderate use (one to three bottles opened per week). Pick a different one.


Like others I bought this item only to have it fail after 2 months. For the first month, it worked well hence the two star review. Since there is no path to repair (deliberately I suspect), I'll buy a different brand from some other source.


I owned the thing for about 2 years, during which it worked as advertised. Was actually very pleased with it until, all of a sudden, it stopped lifting the cork out of the bottle. Instead of lifting the cork out, the plunger just unscrewed, leaving the cork in the bottle. Examination revealed that a small plastic part had broken, rendering the product useless. A part, I might mention, that was not replaceable. What good is solid metal construction, if a small plastic part is on the critical path? So much for lifetime warranty.
