Great product, easy to use, works as advertised, no more corks pushed into the bottle!!!


I am a total clutz when it comes to using a cork screw. This thing makes it easy as pie!


I have two of these, the Brookstone (expensive) and the Houdini (1/3rd the cost). Both work exceptionally well. The Brookstone is all metal, and will certainly outlive me; the Houdini has some polycarbonate parts, which is why I gave it four of five stars, but feels pretty solid. The remarkable thing is how easily they work -- two flips of the lever and the cork pops right out. Another flip and the cork falls off the screw. This thing really does work.


This worked really well when I first got it, but it seems as though it gets harder and harder to use as time goes by, almost as if it's wearing out. And it's not when you insert the corkscrew into the wine, it's when you try to pull the cork out - it's almost impossible now. So, bottom line is - it will work for maybe a year or two but then you'll need another, which to me isn't acceptable for the price I paid.


After 6 bottles and 3 people trying we still can't get this gadget to perform. Frankly I am amazed that anyone would review this positively, the directions are horrible and we resorted to our old 25 cent cork screw which opened fine. I bought this as a gift for my husband and it is going in the trash

For the same cost of traditional / "ah-so" prong type openers, this screwpull knockoff is a good buy (but must consider the bulky size tradeoff). However, when compared to the expensive versions it is a sorry substitute. I have used a LeCreuset Screwpull daily for the last year or two and it has been basically no-brainer flawless even with challenging corks. The Houdini requires one to manually confirm the point is going in centered and one must play with the grip to ensure the point "catches" in the cork. In the first week, I have ripped one cork and plunged another -- mistakes that the expensive models make nearly impossible. The unit is stylish and looks a lot more expensive than what it is going for, but the adage you get what you pay for still holds. If you open a lot of bottles pay the bucks and eliminate frustration. If you are debating between a "waiter's" corkscrew and this for the same price, and you don't mind the bulk, then this will suffice.


Opening a bottle of wine couldn't be easier. There is a small learning curve to master. But once you do - WOW!. Set the Houdini on top of the cork. Push the lever down. Pull the lever up. Out pops the cork. Anothe pull of the lever and the cork pops right off the corksrew.I've mangled plenty of corks before I bought the Houdini. I haven't broken one cork since. The only complaint is it doesn't come in a case to keep itin between uses.


This one works efficiently and quickly. So does the foil cutter, so keep it handy. Better cork (or uncork) in a room apart from your guests, because they all want to give it a try, and there you'll be with your whole cellar of opened bottles.


As a petite winedrinker, I have for years struggled with stubborn corks, broken corks, and little bits of cork floating in my wine. Switching to boxed wine, or wine with twist caps is not an option for me. I do love a good Liebfraumilch.<p>Enter the Metrokane Houdine Corkscrew. It doesn't work at easy as it shows on TV but it does work really well. I liked mine so much I bought a second one for my daughter. Worth the money.

Only lasted a few weeks before the mechanism broke. Extremely disappointing, as a previous one we had lasted for years.


Very compact and sturdy unit. Will fit into areas that many other stand type wine bottle openers will not. May take an extra try or two with synthetic corks. Otherwise works as advertised.

I love my Houdini. I first saw it at my sister's house and immediately
fell in love with it after using it for the first time.
I love mine and would seriously consider buying ths as a gift for everyone (who drinks).


We have a pile of wine openers, but this style works the best. The only thing that makes it better is when it's on a stand.


The corkscrew is flimsy. It is poor for opening synthetic or plastic closures. Because the handles separate when lying on it's side it is difficult to store in a drawer and I have to use a rubber band to hold the handles together when not in use. The product is barely adequate and 2 stars is really too high a rating. The foil cutter that came with it is worse and I never use it. That wouldn't even deserve a rating at all. You are probably better off buying a more expensive corkscrew that is sturdier and easier to work with.


I am a very can-do person, but before my Houdini I had gotten into my share of wrestling matches with wine bottles. I had even broken a spiral or two before I figured there had to be a better way.

The Houdini is slick. Getting the corkscrew to go in is no problem. So far as pulling the cork out is concerned, it does requires a certain amount of "give" in the handle to withdraw it successfully. With just a little patience and practice you will get the hang of it and you should be in business in short order.

This item often becomes a conversation piece for guests that are still pulling out corks the old-fashioned way.


O.K. This corkscrew works, but not that well. The silver color fools ya. You think it will be made of metal and be substantial. Well, guess again! It is mostly (or all) made of plastic. Thus, it makes using the necessary pressure to open a bottle of wine, difficult.

This was perfect and restored the usefulness of an expensive corkscrew that had failed on several very expensive bottles. It was simple to install and worked perfectly every time since I installed it.


Product was exactly as described and fit my rabbit corkscrew as advertised. Price was very competitive and was delivered promptly. The new replacement worm has a non-stick treatment on it and works better than the original.


With Sharper Image out of business, I was concerned about finding a replacement for the worm in their 'rabbit'-type lever corkscrew I have used for years. This replacement worm is identical to the spare provided with the original corkscrew, and is priced well.


At Kitchen Stuff Galore, I found such a good deal on an otherwise expensive replacement part that I ordered three. Low price, very fast shipping in secure package--I couldn't be more pleased. Now my Rabbit works like new.

In my opinion, the display ad for this item was for a "Rabbit" cork remover. We have all read such good reviews of the Rabbit, and how it lasts forever. I believed that we were buying a plain model of Rabbit, it isn't, it appears to be an inexpensive copy, plastic components, and no better than the no name knock-offs. I emailed Metrokane, the Vendor, asking about the difference from the real Rabbit, received no reply. I'm sure that this model will be in the trash in a few months, just like it's predecessors. I recommend that you make sue you are getting a real Rabbit before you order.



This is a wonderful product. The foil cutter that comes with the set works effeciently to remove those foil wraps on the wine bottles. The corkscew is fast & easy. It removes the cork with no effort. A good investment for the money.


Thank You Metrokane Houdini:Finally found a opener that really opens our wine with out tearing the cork all to pieces and ending up in the bottle. OK, the Houdini seems to work pretty well so far. But here's the thing: hidden behind the glued-in-place cardboard sheet on the back of the case is...a rock. Carefully screwed to the plastic. You can't make this stuff up!

I can only assume that the rock is there to make the package feel heavier. (I'm flashing back to Jurassic Park: "Is that heavy? Then it's expensive! Put it down!")

I'm not sure what to think. It's a) hilarious, and b) somewhat deceptive. I'm actually kind of glad someone is doing this in the world. On the other hand, as a person who stood and held the Rabbit and Houdini cases and scrutinized the differences between them, I do feel duped. But maybe the Rabbit has a rock of its own.




I purchased this item for my mother. What a perfect gift. This corkscrew makes opening a bottle of wine a breeze. Very user friendly and so simple. The cork glides out without a problem. The only complaint that I have is it is difficult to store since the handles stick out. Although a simple rubberband seems to handle the problem. This item is worth the money and a is a great gift idea.


I was reluctant to buy the original rabbit, just b/c it was too expensive. I bought this new version, and I have to say that my wife and I are thrilled! It's very easy to use, comes with a backup corkscrew if the other ever breaks, and we love it.


Wonderful product. I have been wondering why opening a wine bottle is so difficult until I bought the rabbit head!


This device works, but not as surely as my previous corkscrew of the similar design. The gripper is somewhat uncertain making the cork removal more difficult.
