First time I tried to use this device, it didn't work...the "worm" detached from the appliance....I returned it immediately...


I was pretty happy with this wine opener until it snapped off in my bottle of wine. Really, I'm not that strong to be able to do that. It was a defective product.

I took pictures of the thing and threw it away. When I tried to have them replace it, they said you must mail in the broken corkscrew (at your own expense) in order for an exchange. Frankly an additional trip to the post office plus postage isn't worth the hastle of a replacement, which I think OXO is banking on. I offered to send pictures. Customer service was pretty unhelpful. I would not recommend this product to others and will probably avoid buying OXO products in general.


Ergonomically great ... however, the corkscrew broke after about a month. The foil cutter is worthless.


The Oxo SteeL Winged Corkscrew is a modern take on the old school wine opener we all know. We got about six month's use from it, until one day the corkscrew broke off in a cork. To be fair, it broke off in a plastic cork that is popular these days, and not a "real" cork. However, many vineyards have turned to plastic corks, so it seems reasonable to expect a corkscrew be able to handle these without breaking. We went back to using our "old school" opener which is still going strong after 10 years, on all types of corks, and has a handy bottle opener on top instead of a useless foil cutter thingie.

NOT recommended.


After reading the other reviews on this, I'm convinced that people have mistaken this for a hands-free corkscrew.

Yes, this is a heavy piece - and that's why you'd buy it! After owning many that broke apart in every conceivable fashion, I decided to lay out more cash, and I wasn't disappointed!

If you are having trouble getting the corkscrew started in the cork, YOU NEED TO STOP DRINKING! (Hehehe...) Seriously, why would that be a measure of the quality of a corkscrew? Unless you are in some sort of bottle-opening speed tournament, I don't see why it matters...just my opinion, I know...

Maybe it's just that my wife and I have had so much practice opening wine bottles - I dunno - but if you are looking for a high-quality corkscrew that will last a long time, this is the one!
